by media update (@mediaupdate) AVATAR has appointed Grant Sithole as its new joint executive creative director (ECD)
Sithole’s experience includes 12 years at FCB Africa, then Ogilvy, and Bakone. His award-winning work is showcased by brands such as Coca-Cola, Vodacom, Toyota, Old Mutual, FNB, Tiger Brands, DSTV, and Standard Bank.
“We have built AVATAR on the premise that to be respected internationally, we need to be preferred locally,” says chief creative officer Veli Ngubane, “We were lucky enough to bring on internationally awarded ECD Brett Wild earlier this year, and now we have Grant, who, as joint ECD, will help drive AVATAR forward creatively.”
AVATAR, an M&N Brands subsidiary, has won seven pieces of new ATL business in 2017, (five from the private sector). “We are the largest majority black-owned and managed agency,” says Ngubane, “And our business success story is well-known. Now it’s time to talk about the work.”
Sithole says he has chosen AVATAR as his new home quite simply because it feels right. “Veli and Zibusiso have led the way, by winning and retaining huge pieces of business. I love the new positioning of ‘ideas that move people’, and it’s really exciting to be able to contribute my take on this vision – 2018 promises to be ‘dope’.”
