Avatar Agency appoints seasoned creative director Jacque Matthee to lead creative studio
Johannesburg, 13 July 2022 – Avatar Agency is proud to announce the appointment of seasoned creative and entrepreneur Jacque Matthee as Executive Creative Director.
Matthee has over 20 years of experience in the advertising industry including serving as Executive Creative Director at Mortimer Harvey, Young & Rubicam and Base2 Agency. He also ventured into the entrepreneurial space, starting his own metaverse business consultancy as co-founder and Global Creative Director at TOKONOMICA.
Matthee says his aim is to reinvigorate a creative studio that will become a solid delivery machine. “A creative studio with a solid base consists of people that are really good at executing their work. It is not enough to just have big ideas. It needs people that are also passionate about their craft and are diligent about consistency in terms of their respective work.”
Throughout his career, Matthee has worked with major local and global brands including Investec, Amstel Larger, Absa, Unilever, Sun International, Caltex, DStv and Mondelez.
Matthee has an enviable awards track record. In 2017, he was awarded for his work on the Joburg Zoo Conservation receiving recognition from Cannes Lions International Festival and The Loeries. Matthee also worked on Absa’s ‘Dare to Share’ campaign, which won a silver award for Best Integrated Marketing Campaign category at New Generation Awards in 2015.
Avatar Founding Partner and Chief Creative Officer, Veli Ngubane, says, “As we celebrate 10 years of our agency and being recognised as one of the top three Creative agencies in South Africa by our competitors in this year’s SCOPEN report, it was important for us to go back to the basics that got us here: creating impactful and results-driven work through authentic insights and data in delivering world-class work that ushers the next chapter of our growth. Jacque is one of the real talents of his generation and we’re delighted to have him on board to lead our creative studio at a time when we’ll be pushing harder than ever to liberate Africa’s creative potential.”
